BRITISH TRENT Did you serve onboard, have relatives or knew anyone that served onboard, the BP tanker British Trent? Were you onboard the vessel in June 1993 when she was hit by the Western Winner off Ostend, with the loss of nine lives? Have you experienced other near-misses in the same stretch of water over the last eight years? For the past two years, the Sunderland Echo has been raising questions that remain unanswered from the British Trent disaster at a European and National level. Three of the crew came from our area and finally the European Commission vice president has agreed to look into the manslaughter case and safety standards in the Wonderlaar Approach.
