Vizagapatam (now called Vishakapatnam), with the Begum loading coal bunkers.
There used to be a native supervisor to keep an eye on the loading, on one side we had a line of men carrying baskets of coal and on one side a line of women.
The supervisor was pretty generous with his bamboo stick across the backs of the men, but he dare not touch the women and they knew it, so the women used to sing as they walked along taunting him, and he used to be on the verge of exploding with rage but of course helpless.

The Management of the Kiddepore Seamans Club was taken over by an ASNCo. Purser "Ginger Smith" who appeared on my previous photo of Captain Johnson and his wife, not long after that photo was taken, and this was our normal residence in between ships.
Baboo Ghat was our nomal stand by berth in the Hooghly while awaiting Cargo.
