Merchant Navy Day

For those of you that did not know it is Merchant Navy Day on 3rd September this year and every year thereafter. Various celebrations and events are to be held, both nationally and internationally. A mention on this page for the first person to spot one of these many events/celebrations taking place!

On a lighter note, did you know that the Missions to Seamen have become the Missions to Seafarers? The President, The Princess Royal, drew the line at Missions to Sea persons! Thank God for that! The change has come about because of the increase in women going to sea for a career. The Princess Royal goes on to say that ‘ Seafarers are an invisible group’. Absolutely bang on there, ask any ship owner, or more lately The Pension Fund. She says further ‘that the Mission has to succour the crews of ships stranded by bad luck, bad management or cynical exploitation, but sadly there will always be owners and managers who think it’s an inconvenience to take care of their crews’. Spot on again, your Highness, you’ve just become my Number One Royal.
