BIDADARI BRONZE PLAQUE

SEPTEMBER 2004

LADIES & GENTLEMEN

The site would like to announce that the plaque for placement in the ‘Garden of Remembrance’ in Singapore dedicated to those who were interred at the Christian Cemetery at Bidadari recently excavated by the authorities has been completed at the Arrow Foundry in Melbourne. The site and all the other sites involved would like to thank everyone for their kind donations, which made all this possible. We would like to take this opportunity of saying a special thank you to Mr Ross Bastian and those employed at the foundry for their individual expertise in the plaques production. We are sure, that when viewed you will agree with us when we say no finer plaque could have been cast and will be a lasting reminder to the memory of those that were interred in the cemetery. Shortly the plaque will be transported to Singapore (it has arrived)and we await a date for its installation and subsequent unveiling and dedication from the Heritage Board. We will keep you informed accordingly. Should anyone wish to attend the ceremony please contact us at Bobbie and I will write to you individually with the relevant details as and when they become available.

BIDADARI GARDEN, SINGAPORE.

Our plaque has finally been mounted on one of the old Cemetery entrance pillars that have been relocated, along with others to form part of the garden that will eventually be incorporated into the Bidadari National Park. A Hindu Cupola, completing all the major faiths represented that were buried in and around the original Bidadari Cemetery, will join it, shortly. There also appears to be a Chinese Temple adjacent to the pillars. The garden itself is situated near the entrance to the Mount Vernon Camp (Military) and is on Mount Vernon Road, which is off Upper Aljunied Road. A dedication service will be held shortly led by ‘The Missions to Seamen’ Padre, when a date has been fixed we will post it here, on the site.

As we had a £700 surplus in the fund after paying for the bronze one erected at the Bidadari garden we decided to purchase four trees and brass plaques to be planted at the National Memorial Arboretum situated at Alrewas, Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. The plaques have been completed and the trees are to be planted between November of this year to April of next. When I have the trees exact location I will post said information here. We, involved with the fund would like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone for his or her kind support over the last three years making all of the above possible.
