Dishergarh Nš 3 Pit power house after the subsidence.
Several square miles of land subsided about twelve to fifteen feet when the workings of the collieries caved in. I understood that this may have been due to an underground fire but it may have been caused by the very sandy subsoils. I found Dishergarh Power Co. on the web and, after all these years, apparently this subsidence is still going on. They say it is due to bad management during the early years, when the mines were under private ownership, I hope they are not including my old man! There is now a National Plan to relocate residents of the area who have lost their homes.

Building the sand hopper at Nš 6 pit Dishergarh - 27 / 12 / 1930
My mother invented a ventilation system for the galleries. She suggested using the draught from the boilers for the pit head gear to suck air from the mine (there was another shaft at the far end where the fresh air entered) It seems it worked very well, and reduced costs as no fans were required.
